We sing songs about it, poetry is written about it, and movies flaunt it, yet many have never truly known the impact, or fullness of joy in the real thing. What is this real thing?

Love, Agape Love… the unconditional love of God. God’s love is perfect, and it never fails. God’s love is with us when all other love has vanished.

There are three types of love.

  1. Eros - physical love
  2. Phileo - brotherly love.
  3. Agape - divine love.

John 21: 15-17, "So when they had finished breakfast, Jesus *said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than these?" He *said to Him, "Yes, Lord; You know that I love You." He *said to him, "Tend My lambs." 16 He *said to him again a second time, "Simon, son of John, do you love Me?" He *said to Him, "Yes, Lord; You know that I love You." He *said to him, "Shepherd My sheep." 17 He *said to him the third time, "Simon, son of John, do you love Me?" Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, "Do you love Me?" And he said to Him, "Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You." Jesus *said to him, "Tend My sheep."

We find Jesus asking Peter the all-important question, “Peter, do you love me?”  Jesus is still asking the same question today. This simple, yet profound question deserves an answer from every human being. Do you love Jesus?

Jesus was not satisfied with a profession of Peter’s love, nor is he satisfied with my profession or yours. Agape love is active, yet can not be earned. The natural eye does not see agape love, but we can see the fruit of it.

  1. Love means we will put Christ first.
  2. Love seeks Him in prayer daily.
  3. Love will cause us to obey Him.
  4. Love places God in high esteem.
  5. Love means we love one another.
  6. Love means we will read and study His Word.

Physical love is a beautiful gift from God when shared with a marriage partner, and our children or family. Agape love enhances the physical love we experience.

Brotherly love comes once we have known and accepted Agape love. It will encourage forgiveness, and cause us to accept our brothers and sisters as they are. It will cause us to pray for both the unlovable and those we love.

God’s love will lift us to high places. His love sees you as you can be in Christ. His love asks only for us to love Him, and to love one another. If indeed, we have received this wonderful gift of love, this same love will stir our hearts and fill us with compassion. It will burn in our hearts and cause us to yearn to share his love with the lost.

Can you answer His question? Do you love Him?
